The Freestyle Libre sensor is a continuous glucose monitoring (CGM) system that allows people with diabetes to see their glucose levels without having to prick their fingers.

The sensor is inserted into the back of the upper arm and can be worn for up to 14 days. It uses a small filament to measure glucose levels interstitial fluid (IF), which is the fluid that surrounds the cells.

The sensor then sends the readings to a reader or smartphone app, where they can be viewed in real time.  There are a number of benefits to using the Freestyle Libre sensor for blood glucose monitoring. Some of the key benefits include:

    • Less finger pricks: The Freestyle Libre sensor eliminates the need for finger pricks, which can be painful and inconvenient. This can be especially beneficial for people with diabetes who need to check their glucose levels frequently.

    • More accurate readings: The Freestyle Libre sensor is more accurate than finger prick tests, which can help people with diabetes better manage their condition.

    • Real-time data: The Freestyle Libre sensor provides real-time glucose readings, which can help people with diabetes make better decisions about their food intake, exercise, and medication.

    • Continuous monitoring: The Freestyle Libre sensor can be used to monitor glucose levels continuously, which can help people with diabetes identify trends and patterns in their blood sugar levels.

Here are some additional details about the benefits of the Freestyle Libre sensor:Less finger pricks:

      • The Freestyle Libre sensor eliminates the need for finger pricks, which can be painful and inconvenient. This can be especially beneficial for people with diabetes who need to check their glucose levels frequently. A study published in the journal Diabetes Care found that people who used the Freestyle Libre sensor had significantly fewer finger pricks than those who used a traditional finger prick test.

      • More accurate readings: The Freestyle Libre sensor is more accurate than finger prick tests. This is because the sensor measures glucose levels in interstitial fluid, which is closer to the actual blood glucose level than finger prick tests. A study published in the journal Diabetes Technology & Therapeutics found that the Freestyle Libre sensor was more accurate than finger prick tests in people with type 1 and type 2 diabetes.

      • Real-time data: The Freestyle Libre sensor provides real-time glucose readings, which can help people with diabetes make better decisions about their food intake, exercise, and medication. This is because people with diabetes can see how their glucose levels are changing in real time and can adjust their behavior accordingly. A study published in the journal Diabetes Care found that people who used the Freestyle Libre sensor were more likely to make healthy lifestyle changes than those who used a traditional finger prick test.

      • Continuous monitoring: The Freestyle Libre sensor can be used to monitor glucose levels continuously, which can help people with diabetes identify trends and patterns in their blood sugar levels. This information can be used to improve diabetes management and prevent complications. A study published in the journal Diabetes Care found that people who used the Freestyle Libre sensor were more likely to achieve their HbA1c goals than those who used a traditional finger prick test.
    • How To Use

      • Insert the sensor: Insert the sensor using the included applicator. The sensor should be inserted at a 45-degree angle.
      • Activate the sensor: Activate the sensor using the reader or smartphone app.
      • Scan the sensor: To view your glucose readings, scan the sensor with the reader or smartphone app.

The Freestyle Libre sensor can be used for up to 14 days. After 14 days, the sensor will need to be replaced.

Here are some additional tips for using the Freestyle Libre sensor:
